Enjoy these fun things to do this holiday weekend in St. Lucie, Indian River and Martin counties.

For most people, Labor Day means a day off from work.
It also gives us an extra day to check out Treasure Coast events this weekend.
Try new ciders at a rat rod and Jeep show. Learn how to grill and fry. Party with the community. Watch a skim boarding competition. Do the hula at a luau. Go back to the 1980s. Find family fun on a farm. Drink local beer.

Try new ciders
The Jeepers & Creepers Car Show Block Party is 3-9 p.m. Saturday at Pierced Ciderworks at 411 N. Second St., in Fort Pierce.
The Treasure Coast’s first and only cidery is closing the street for a rat rod and Jeep show and the release for 12 new ciders that day only. The flavors include cilantro lime jalapeno, cream soda, mimosa and bloody mary. Each cider is $6, or you can buy a $25 wristband for unlimited cider from 3-6 p.m.
The rat rods are from Colonial Metalworks in Fort Pierce and the Jeeps are from the Treasure Coast Jeep Club. Plus, there will be a food truck with island-style barbecue.

Learn how to grill and fry
The Labor Day Festival at Bass Pro Shops is noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at 2250 Gatlin Blvd., in Port St. Lucie.
The festival has activities for kids, including an archery range challenge, a bait toss challenge, a duck pond game, a photo download and a patriotic craft. Starting at noon, frog visors will be given to the first 150 kids who participate in the activities. Kids also have the chance to win prizes.
It also has face painting, as well as funnel cake and cotton candy samples, from 1-4 p.m. and hot dogs from noon to 2 p.m. both days.
There also are seminars and product demonstrations. On Saturday, learn about smokers at 1:30 p.m. and grills at 3 p.m. On Sunday, learn about Dutch ovens at 1:30 p.m. and fryers at 3 p.m. A zippered insulated tote and key chain bottle opener will be given to the first 25 people who attend each seminar.

Party with the community
The Community Block Party is 4-8 p.m. Saturday at Genesis Community Church at 602 E. Weatherbee Road in Fort Pierce.
The party includes human foosball tournaments with teams of six people, a bounce house, games and music. Bring canned goods for a food drive.

Watch skim boarding
Mulligan’s Skim Jam competition starts at 8 a.m. Saturday at Mulligan’s Beach House Bar & Grill at 1025 Beachland Blvd., in Vero Beach. Riders check in at 7 a.m. and have a mandatory meeting at 7:30 a.m.
The after-party is 6-10 p.m. at Walking Tree Brewery at 3209 Dodger Road. It includes an awards ceremony, live music, food trucks, raffles, prizes and a street course with a quarter pipe, ramps and rails.

Hula at a luau
The End of Summer Luau is 6-10 p.m. Saturday at Heaton’s Reef Bar & Grill at Vero Beach Hotel & Spa at 3500 Ocean Drive.

A Totally Awesome ’80s Howl Party is 6-10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Riverside Theatre at 3250 Riverside Park Drive in Vero Beach.
Sing along to songs from the ’80s that you request from the talented musicians playing the Howl at the Moon dueling pianos. Wear ’80s attire for a chance to win prizes. Plus, there are drink specials.

Election 2018: What you need to know for Aug. 28 primaries
Floridians will choose a governor, state Cabinet, legislators, local representatives and U.S. senator in this year’s elections.
The primary is Aug. 28. The general election is Nov. 6.
Only registered party members may vote in the Republican or Democratic primaries for federal, state and county offices.

The event will debut the first IGNITE Invitational 12-Man Tournament, as well as women’s, tag and singles action. “Nightshade,” an Olympic bobsled designed by retired NASCAR driver Geoff Bodine will be on display starting at noon and throughout the event.

The WAVE 92.7 Country Throwdown preliminary round is 8-10 p.m. Saturday at Manatee Island Bar & Grill at 1640 Seaway Drive in Fort Pierce.
Watch local country singers and songwriters battle it out in the preliminary round for a chance to advance to the final round at Manatee Island Bar & Grill in Port Salerno on Sept. 15.
